      <abstract>
        <p>  From ancient time Allium sativum has been used as food, spice and household medicine for several common problems such as dog bites, insect stings, earaches, burns, wounds, baldness, headaches, chest colds etc. The therapeutic effect of Allium sativum is due to Allin, Allicin, protein, fixed oil, thiamine, ascorbic acid and minerals. This review covers the study of Pharmacognosy, pharmachemistry, pharmacology and pharmaceutical aspects of this herb. Moreover, its valuable medicinal effects along with its economical value are being discussed. </p>
