      <abstract>
        <p>Gymnosporia senegalensis (Lam.) Loes., belonging to the family Celastraceae, is a shrub or small tree widely distributed across Africa and parts of Asia. Traditionally, the plant has been extensively utilized in folk and indigenous medical systems for the management of various ailments such as malaria, gastrointestinal disturbances, dermatological conditions, and pain-related disorders. The present review consolidates available scientific literature on the phytochemical composition and pharmacological properties of G. senegalensis, highlighting its therapeutic relevance. Phytochemical investigations have revealed the presence of bioactive compounds including tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins, which are believed to play a key role in its medicinal effects. Experimental studies have demonstrated notable antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities associated with different parts of the plant. These findings suggest that G. senegalensis holds considerable promise as a source of bioactive compounds, warranting further systematic research to explore its potential in drug discovery and therapeutic development.
