UGC Discontinues CARE Journal Listing: New Guidelines for Selecting Peer-Reviewed Journals
The University Grants Commission has officially discontinued the UGC-CARE journal listing system. This decision follows an earlier notice issued on 11 February 2025.
Earlier, the UGC-CARE list was widely used by researchers, faculty members, and students to identify approved journals for academic publications. However, the Commission has now clarified that the list will no longer be maintained or used as a standard reference for research evaluation.
Focus Shifts to Quality and Ethical Publishing
With the discontinuation of the UGC-CARE list, UGC has introduced suggestive parameters for choosing peer-reviewed journals. Researchers are now encouraged to evaluate journals based on:
· Rigorous peer-review process
· Journal indexing and visibility
· Editorial board credibility
· Transparency in publication practices
· Adherence to publication ethics
