ABSTRACT

Asrigdara in Ayurveda is a condition where there is heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) either cyclic or acyclic and is associated with Angamarda (body aches) and pain which is very common gynecological symptom observed in day to day practice. It negatively affects quality of life and is associated with poor health of women. Srivadivati is a polyherbal Ayurvedic drug, predominantly Tikta (bitter),  Madhura (sweet), Kashaya (astringent)  in Rasa (taste) and therefore are Pittakapha Shamaka (Pittakapha pacifying). It is indicated in Asrigdara.Total33 diagnosed patients of Asrugdara were enrolled as per selection criteria, out of them 30 patients completed the course of the treatment while 3 patients discontinued. Assessment criteria were based on the improvement in the score of cardinal symptoms before and after the treatment. There was a statistically significant reduction observed in cardinal symptoms by Sarivadi Vati at the end of the treatment period. The other common symptoms were also successfully reduced.

ABSTRACT

The incidence of lifestyle disease like polycystic ovarian syndrome, Uccharaktachapa (~hypertension), Sthaulya (~obesity), Madhumeha (~Diabetes) as well as Iron deficiency Anemia are increasing day by day. Blood loss is one major cause of the iron deficiency. Women are at a higher risk as they lose blood during menstruation. Even a lack of iron in the diet can lead to this deficiency. Vitamin B₁₂ is a nutrient that helps keep the body’s blood and nerve cells healthy and helps make DNA, the genetic material in all of the cells. Vitamin B₁₂ also helps prevent megaloblastic anemia, a blood condition that makes people tired and weak. Vegetarians or vegans, menstruating and pregnant women and individuals who donate blood more frequently are at an increased risk of iron deficiency. As per the clinical features, Vit B₁₂ deficiency can be considered among the types of Pandu Vyadhi. The aim of the study is to assess the role of Ayurvedic Nidanaparivarjana and Pathyapathya in Vit B₁₂ deficiency as a first and the most important line of treatment in Ayurveda. In this case study, the strict vegetarian female, aged 27 years came with Vit B₁₂ (also called cobalamin) deficiency with the symptoms i.e., tiredness, loss of appetite, weight loss, constipation, irritation and confusion. She was treated by Ayurveda with Nidanaparivarjana and Pathyapathya for 3 months without any allopathic intervention. After the completion of treatment protocol, her Vit B₁₂ level became normal with marked improvement in the above-mentioned associated symptoms.

ABSTRACT

Wajaul Mafasil is a compound Arabic term, where Waja literally means ‘pain’ and Mafasil means joints. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of the arthritis and is the leading cause of disability in older persons, affecting 10% of population >60 years of age, in which 80% of individual have limited mobility and 25% cannot perform major daily activities. The disease follows a more severe course in women with greater symptoms, more extensive involvement, and increased prevalence of knee and hand joint involvement. There are wide range of treatment options available in different system of medicines. Inspite of that patient are not fully satisfied. Unani scholars in their treatise have mentioned different formulations but their scientific validation have still not done. Hence a study was conducted to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of Habb-e-Hudar and Hijamah bila Shurt in Wajaul Mafasil of knee. The study was conducted as comparative clinical study. A total of 72 eligible patients fitting the inclusion criteria were selected from OPD/ IPD. However, only 60 patients (30 in each group) completed the trial. Group A patients was given 2 pills Habb-e-Hudar was given orally twice a day for 30 days and Group B patient received Hijamah bila Shurt on knee daily for period of 30 days. Patients were assessed on subjective and objective parameters at baseline and on every follow up till 30th day. Safety parameters were assessed at baseline and after the end of the trial. The results were analysed statistically using Student t test and Paired Proportion test. Significant improvement was observed in all the subjective parameters (p<0.01), and all the objective parameters (p<0.001). No adverse effect was reported. This study reveals that Hijamah bila Shurt and Habbe-Hudar both are effective but Hijamah bila Shurt is comparatively more effective treatment for Wajaul Mafasil of knee. There were no clinically or statistically significant side effects or toxicity during or after the trial. However large sample sized controlled clinical trials of longer duration are required to generalize the results.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this research work was to Evaluation of Some Natural Polymer used as Sustained Release Matrix Tablet, any pharmaceutical formulation contains two ingredients one is the active ingredient and other is an excipients. An excipients help in the manufacturing of dosage form and it also improves physicochemical parameters of the dosage form. Polymers play an important role as excipients in any dosage form. They influence drug release and should be compatible, non-toxic, stable, economic etc. and develop a fixed Dose Combination product in a two different strength using same blend for both the strengths of tablet as a SR tablet formulation. In the tablet, Extended Release layer consist of Antihypertensive Drug belonging to class β-selective adrenergic blocking agent without partial agonist or membrane stabilizing properties. Extended release preparation provides sustained release and reduces the chances of tough related side effects. In selected cases of extended release preparation of this drug used in treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure. The clinical studies have shown beneficial role of this drug as an extended release preparation. The main objective of the present study was to develop, formulate and evaluate a matrix tablet by using hydrophilic natural retardant polymers which would retard drug release in upper GI tract and should start releasing the drug when it reaches the alkaline environment of small intestine. Okara and Tramarind Gum Mucilage were investigated as the model hydrophilic retardant polymers. Wet granulation method was and nine batches of tablets were prepared. The prepared tablets were subjected for pharmacopoeial and non-pharmacopoeial evaluation parameters including loose and tapped bulk density, compressibility index, hausner ratio, angle of repose, friability, hardness, thickness, weight variation, % drug content and in-vitro drug release studies. It can be concluded that the combination of hydrophilic polymers that are retardant in nature are better suited for sustained and controlled drug delivery system than the hydrophilic polymer alone.
